Trip to Poole Quay
We had great fun at Poole Quay following the Cockle Trail and learning all about the history of Poole. We learnt about the differences between a harbour, a quay and a port. We found out about the uses of the port and compared from past to present day. Then we followed the Cockle Trail and learnt about the smugglers, Newfoundlanders and the pirates and where they stored their goods. We also saw some of the oldest buildings in Poole, including the Town Hall and Custom House where they would sentence and hold the prisoners. We compared the houses and buildings from Poole Quay to those in Canford Heath. At the end of the morning, we visited Poole Museum and looked at some of the primary/secondary sources.
